Dr. Sketchy at Fred Segal

What do you get when you put together hot models, fashions, and artists all in the same room... Incredible art!

On Thursday March 18, 2010. The originator of Dr. Sketchy, artist Molly Crabapple premiered a line of t-shirts she created. It took place at a store called Fred Segal in west hollywood. The Dr. Sketchy LA group was there too. They were invited to capture the evening event in drawings. There had to be at least 50 or more artists roaming throughout the store drawing any one of six models posing in Molly's fashions.

Because the room was in constant motion and no pose was held for very long, I felt like a reporter capturing moments at the event with my crayola pencils instead of a camera. The drawings were fast and many.

I had an incredible time at the event and I think produced some fun artworks. I also got to meet Molly!

Dr. Sketchy LA is great. If you live in the Los Angeles area it's worth attending at least once even if you're not an artist.













The above sounds like a freakin' advertisement. But I did have a great time.

As for the rest of my days...

I am trying to hang on to sanity as best as I can. A lot of those weird feelings that occurred during the move out here to LA are starting to creep in again minus the anger. I don't really feel mad at anything or anyone but more frustrated at my current situation. And what's worst is that I feel there is a solution right in front of me but for some reason I just can't grasp it.

But I guess this is where faith comes in. Cause I have faith that within a year's time, everything will have worked itself out, and I will be doing what I need to make me happy.

California Institute of Abnormalarts

About a week ago, a Sunday night, I went to a Dr. Sketchy drawing session that took place at a location called the California Institute of Abnormalarts. The environment was half circus half X-Files.To say this place was strange would be an under statement. But no doubt, this was the best hands down drawing group I've ever attended on either coast!

The highlight of the evening was the half woman, half robot model. From the waist down she was flesh and bones. But from the waist up she was robotic. Even I had to do a double take at first, lowering my glasses as if my eyes were playing tricks on me. That was a fun evening and I plan on doing again when they have their next meeting there.

I thought I'd share some of the drawings I did there as well as some of the ones I've been doing at the Art Directors Guild drawing sessions. I think my drawing has improved tremendously since I started going to these classes.

Aside from the drawings sessions, I've been working on some personal artworks as well as shooting some You Tube material with some former co-workers. With all this newly found free time, I thought It would be fun to go around L.A. and interact with the people. I will be posting a lot of funny and strange stuff soon.

So far I seem to have manage to keep myself busy though it's only been three weeks since the official end of the Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. And though none of this busyness is for pay, it's better than sitting around staring at the walls.

Often, people have been asking me now that Conan is off the air what are my plans, am I going back east. Well, on any given day my answer to that has changed. The one thing that has remain consistence for me is that I came out here to work with Conan. You take him out of the equation, what's left I don't know. Though, in the last few weeks I've started meeting some really cool people out here.

So I guess what I am saying is that it's all up in the air at this point. I am really hoping Conan gets an offer and that it will include my working with him again soon.
